Sadler’s Wells has announced it is launching a project to engage more young people in dance.

Reaching 48 school and youg dance groups annually, the Makring Moves project will be for participants aged 11-18, and for up to 24 years for disabled and D/deaf young dancers.

The project will start in September 2023, and will provide each group or school involved with digital toolkits created by four dance professionals that are connected with Sadler’s Wells. This year the toolkits have been created by Alesandra Seutin, Dannielle ’Rhimes’ Lecointe, Jordan Douglas and Oona Doherty. Making Moves will culminate with performances at the venue next year.

‘The Making Moves programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people across England to get involved in making dance and learning from some of the world’s leading choreographers,’ says artistic director at Sadler’s Wells, Alistair Spalding. ‘Sadler’s Wells is committed to engaging people in dance and we are excited to see the pieces the groups create and follow them on this journey.’

Joce Giles, director of learning and engagement at Sadler’s Wells, said the scheme aimed to ‘celebrate the creativity and talent of young people throughout England and give them a platform to create and perform new dance works in a professional setting.’
